2023 – February 18 – OGL Update

Well, a lot has happened since my last post. Here is the current state of affairs.

• Wizards of the Coast/Hasbro released the SRD 5.1 under the creative commons 4.0 BY License. While this is great news for 5th Edition creators and fans, it does not go far enough.
• Many works were/are based on the 3rd Edition SRD. This has not been addressed.
• Basic Fantasy has publicly committed to moving to a Creative Commons 4.0 BY AT license.

I gave this a lot of thought and came up with my personal action plan.

1. Scrub all OGL content and licensing from my projects.
2. Begin releasing under the Creative Commons 4.0 BY license.
3. Evaluate the new open gaming licenses and SRD’s as they become available.
4. Updates will be posted as they occur.
5. And yes, I am still really pissed at Wizards of the Coast/Hasbro.
