A brief description of Module #1 – Character Creation

I began playing long ago and far away in my misspent youth with access to the DM’s 1E players handbook. He had the 3 LBB’s. He soon there after obtained the DM’s guide and we were off to the races.

We soon discovered rpg magazines, rules expansions, and other games. Lots of ideas and options have come and gone over the years.

Module #1 is a compilation, distillation, and finally putting it into black and white of:

  • What type of kindreds I allow as character races. I definitely don’t care for half this and quarter that. I also prefer benefits and penalties related to behaviors and abilities, not character stat/level bonuses. I include overviews of how they typically view each other.
  • I have combed through the SRD’s and other OGL material to define what classes and their abilities are.
  • I then present my preferred process for rolling attributes. This is followed by determining age, height, and weight.
  • Knowledges based on exposure to environments, cultures and social classes are described and benefits are listed.
  • Prior professional exposure is selected.
  • Optional family details are available.
  • And rounding out the module is a 2d6 resolution system I like for skills, talents, and abilities.
